Full Circle: This album is a project that bloomed over the course of 12 years starting back when I wrote my first composition in 2007. This is the first official recording of these works and was recorded August 18, 2020 when things were beginning to open up after our first shutdown for the pandemic. The album is called Full Circle, because of this feeling of finding a language true to myself. In my creative process, there are elements in the sound world of these compositions that stay consistent and then there are opportunities for me as a performer to improvise; diverge, sculpt, and travel. For example, in each of the two versions of "Journey", which bookend the album, I take the opportunity to go a slightly different route. All the sounds on the album are made by playing the flute/ alto flute. Occasionally I will sing over the mouthpiece or create percussive sounds. The structural decisions along with the techniques used on the flute to create sound are an extension of my identity. These compositions feel to me as though they were always a part of me and through them in a way I feel more connected with my Puerto Rican heritage.
